About this site

This site is a collection of articles I find interesting (though not always because I agree with them) and a research diary, among other things. Sometimes I’ll comment, but mostly I’ll let a key paragraph speak for itself. Please support the original sources by clicking on the link at the bottom of each post to visit the original site.

I’m writing here in a purely personal capacity, and reserve the right to change my mind about anything I say…

About me

I’m the Associate Head of the School of Art and Design at the University of South Wales, based in Cardiff.

I’ve previously worked at the University of Brighton, University of Dundee, and University of Cambridge. I’m currently a PhD student at the University of Lancaster.

I’m the author of Visual Communication: From Theory to Practice which is currently being revised for its second edition.

My research interests revolve around education (curriculum development, assessment, design education) and I’m also interested in how design intersects with other fields such as health, policy, education, crime, transport and more. And by “intersect” I don’t just mean making nice posters and leaflets for all those things but actually designing better approaches to health, education, justice etc.

I’m a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
